Abbona Barolo Terlo Ravera 2006 (Tre Bicchieri - 3 glassses - in Gambero Rosso Guide)
This great Barolo has achieved the highest accolade in Italy's wine guide. The single vineyard is situated at 400m above sea level, and is south facing, affording full ripeness to the Nebbiolo grapes. The finished wine spends twelve months in barriques followed by eighteen months in 3000l Slovenian oak casks. This is an expression of Barolo at its best, being packed with ripe fruit, encapsulated in a big, supple cloak of tannin. The aromas are very Autumny, with hints of forest floor, truffles, violets and dark earth. It fills the mouth, yet has a beautiful dry, long finish. Mature in a good cellar (16 - 18 deg C) until 2020.
