Cinsault is a red wine grape that thrives in hot, dry climates. It is one of the most planted varieties in Southern France, though it is generally a workhorse grape that is blended with other classic Rhône varieties such as Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. In South Africa, Cinsault was once known as Hermitage and was famously crossed with Pinot Noir in 1925 to create Pinotage. Bellevue boasts with an original Cape Dutch homestead built in 1803. Together with the historical home, there is also a signal cannon which formed part of the important defence system of the original Cape Colony.

The grapes for this delightful wine come off untrellised bushvines, aged between 21 and 67 years. It is at once full of strawberry fruitiness, earthy and savoury at the same time, with a good tannin balance. Drink now until 2025. A good match for dishes such as rare roast beef or lamb biryani.
