The estate of Bindella was purchased in 1985 by Rudolf Bindella, a Swiss man from Zurich. In the exquisite layout of the estate and the pristine cellars, the Swiss influence is definitely felt, but the wines produced in their 20 ha of vineyards are without a doubt Tuscan and of the very highest quality. The vineyards are located in the zone of Argiano which has a reddish terrain rich in iron, which produces wines of superior balance and There, Bindella has a small 3.5 ha vineyard reserved exclusively for the making of their premier wine, Vallocaia. The vines in this vineyard are over 40 years old and produce wine of intense and rich flavour. Bindella had originally planned this vineyard for a riserva Vino Nobile, but he found that by aging it in small oak casks (Allier, Nevers, Vosges, Troncais)of medium toast, (which the Vino Nobile discipline does not allow), that its richness was enhanced and the resulting wine exceptional. Until the discipline changes, he will continue to declassify Vallocaia to a Vino da Tavola.
