Elim Region
Cold Mountain Vineyards, home to Brunia Wines, is situated high on the “Koue Berge”, 20 km SE of Stanford on the Elim road. The owners, Willie and Annetia du Preez, bought the farm in 2004 and planted a 6-hectare vineyard. This is their first wine to be bottled from this cool, maritime vineyard. 2009 was a good year for Sauvignon, being noticeably cooler with very little summer rain, and the berries were small and concentrated. The wine has attractive, upfront varietal aromas with layers of goose- and blueberry, shadowed by hints of fynbos, lime and a flinty minerality. These follow through to the palate, combining with a refreshing crispness, which emphasizes an even more powerful blend of flavours, perfected by a lingering aftertaste. Lovely balance and drinkability.
