Made of 100% Gewurztraminer, grown on two sites – Kaltern-Preyhof at 550m above sea-level, on chalky, red sandy soil of medium difficulty, with good heat retaining capacity. The second, St. Josef, is at 250m altitude, on sandy-clay soils with a warm microclimate. The yield per vine is a meagre 1 – 1.5kg. Harvest time is mid-end October. Cold maceration on the skins for 4-6 hours, in temperature-controlled high-grade steel tanks. Left to mature on the fine lees for 4 months. Typical nose of mint, fine white garden roses and lychees. On the palate, the wine is full and complex with a fine acidity and lingering finish. Drink from 2009 – 2013.
