Produced from various French clones of Pinot Noir, grown on two different sites: one is Kaltern-Leisenhof, which is 500m above sea-level on sandy-clay soil; and the other is Klughammer which is 230m above sea-level on sandy, reddish porphyry floor with long, solar radiation. Yield per vine is a meagre 1kg per vine. Matured in French oak barrels for 16 - 18 months. A mature bouquet teases the nose from marinated fruits such as raspberry and cherry, with discreet notes of vanilla and spices. Leather and almonds add to the aroma and palate, and there is ample tannin to tie it all together. Serve now, if decanting for four hours, or age until it is six to eight years old. Serve with poultry such as duck or guineafowl, dark meat dishes and mild, creamy cheeses.
