International businessman Johann Rupert’s model winemaking enterprise, named for his late brother, Anthonij, has the 18th century L’Ormarins Estate as its Franschhoek home. The venture encompasses an internationally successful quintet of brands, namely: Anthonij Rupert, Cape of Good Hope, L’Ormarins, Terra del Capo and Jean Roi.
The vineyards selected for the Cape of Good Hope range represent some of the oldest vines in the country, lovingly tended to produce only the finest reflection of their terroir. The farm Altima, is situated in Elandskloof, an isolated valley north of Villiersdorp. Vineyards are planted from 600m above sea-level, with the highest vineyard planted at 878m. The steep topography causes the valley to receive less direct sunlight, making for a distinct cool climate. Decomposed shale is the predominant soil on the farm.

Tasting notes:
“Appealingly bold aromas of tropical fruits—guava, kiwi, and fig— highlighted by a light grapefruit sheen. Taut, crisp, and tangy, the palate boasts an abundance of citrus vivacity. The ripe tropical notes from the nose are present as well, with kiwi and fig complemented by a light dusting of flint and white pepper for added complexity. Texture is impressive, with a leesy breadth and length that define its character. The balance and harmony of fruit, acid, and lees are notable, and the finish is remarkably lingering.” – Winemaker
