The Alheit Vineyards wines are made by Suzaan and Chris Alheit in their cellar in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. They source grapes from around the Cape Winelands.
Region: Four “new” old vine blocks from Stellenbosch, Tygerberg, Paardeberg and Piekenierskloof, a vinous map of the foundation of the Cape wine industry.
Viticulture and Wine making
The Cartology blocks are dry farmed bush vines, with a minimum age of 30 years, although most are around 40 years old. They are extremely picky about the parcels selected for this wine. To illustrate this point, it happens sometimes that even vineyards that feature regularly in Cartology are declassified if they have a mediocre vintage.
The 2018 vintage is made of 89% Chenin Blanc with 11% old vine Semillon.
Enticing nose of citrus, honey, quince and some baked spice. The palate is alive with flavour, mineral energy and saline length. There is an exquisite balance of acidity and generous fruit.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Seared Scallops or simply cooked fish with a fragrant salad.
