Chris and Suzaan Alheit are a husband and wife team. They’ve worked in the Cape wine industry, as well as working harvests together in California’s Napa Valley, Western Australia, St.Emilion in France, Clare Valley in South Australia, and Germany’s Mosel River. During their travels they also toured and tasted in New Zealand, Languedoc, Rousillon, Provence, the Northern and Southern Rhone, and the Cyclades (Greece). These adventures overseas filled them with a tremendous respect and admiration for the great wines of Europe. To them Europe is the heartland of truly fine wine, and they wish to apply lessons learnt there to what they do here in the Cape.
CARTOLOGY (meaning the study of maps) is a vinous exploration of Cape heritage. It is intended to be a picture of the Cape, seen through the lens of her mature vineyards, in a given vintage. Therefore, the cuveé is composed of rare and extraordinary parcels of mature dryland bushvines. Naturally, the varieties used are also heritage varieties, namely Chenin blanc and Semillon. They have been planted in the Cape for centuries.
Cultivars: 89% Chenin Blanc; 11% Semillon
Some reduction before subtle notes of lime, naartjie and white peach, talcum powder and dried herbs. Lovely fruit definition – fantastic shape in the mouth with great side and back palate. The acidity, meanwhile, is suitably fresh and the finish long and pithy – Christian Eedes
