Anthonij Rupert Cabernet Franc 2019

International businessman Johann Rupert’s model winemaking enterprise, named for his late brother, Anthonij, has 18th century L’Ormarins Estate, situated beneath the jagged peaks of the Groot Drakenstein mountains in the Franschhoek valley as its home. Anthonij Rupert Wyne focus on terroir specific wines made from a number of sites for optimal varietal specific growing conditions. Grapes are sourced from own prime vineyards in Darling, Swartland, Elandskloof and the home farm, as well as exceptional vineyard sites, including old-vine parcels around the winelands. Vinification is by specialist winemakers in four custom cellars. The venture encompasses an internationally successful quintet of brands, namely: Anthonij Rupert, Cape of Good Hope, L’Ormarins, Terra del Capo and Jean Roi.

One of the grape varietals that make up the classic Bordeaux-style red blend, here, Cabernet Franc is allowed to shine in all it’s glory as an integrated and complex, single varietal wine. Harvested from their Franschhoek farm, the vines grow in the warm and temperate conditions of the valley in decomposed granite soil. The wines were aged for eighteen to twenty-four months in 225L French oak barrels (60% new).
