‘69% Chenin Blanc, 13% Roussanne, 12% Marsanne and 6% Grenache Blanc. The nose shows hay, cut apple, peach and apricot plus floral perfume and spice. Dense fruit with tangy acidity and a savoury finish. Round and relatively thick textured although alcohol is just 12.81%. ‘Pale straw in colour with a golden yellow hue, like sunshine in a glass. Seductive aromatics of white peach, crushed seashells, jasmine, and dried fynbos lead to a burst of juicy fruit on the palate that is pure, focused, and filled with character. Farming is a later-life career for celebrated film director Johan Heyns who, with wife Sue, arrived from Johannesburg and started to develop this Bot River farm in 2008 when they bought two pieces of land in the Botrivier Valley. Today the land is known as Anysbos. Anysbos is named after the Anysboegoe (Agathosma Cerefolium) that grows in the Overberg. Mostly Rhône varieties are grown on the farm, sharing the land with olives and goats.
This is a passion-driven project focused on grapes grown on the farm and, together with the expert winemaking skills of Marelise Niemann of Momento Wines, the aim is to produce small-batch wines that not only reflect the Bot River region but, most importantly, are sustainable and water-wise.
