Brezza remains one of Piedmont’s great undiscovered gems. The estate’s Barolos, made in a rigorously traditional style, show tons of vintage and vineyard character in the classic, mid-weight style that is the signature of traditionally made Barolos from the village of Barolo. Brezza offers a beautiful window into the fascinating world of traditional Barolo. If you truly love that style, these are wines you will definitely want to enjoy and collect.
Sandier soils, E facing. Light to medium garnet colour. Gorgeous floral bouquetwith great charm. Sweet entry, elegant raspberry and rhubarb, showing exposition to morning sun. Super balance, depth and restrained complexity. Great value. ( CR 17 )
One of Barolo & the region’s hallowed vineyards, Cannubi is apparently so-named as it sits on the ‘Cannubbio’, the border between the two key geological zones of the region: Tortonian & Helvetian. From 2010 vintage the vineyard now comprises 34 ha, but the original heart constitutes half that. Brezza’s parcel was bought in 1997, them having rented it for nine years. In 2011, it displays a distinct strawberry, herbal tea character; part vintage, part vineyard. A rich brew that needs time to harmonise. ( DBG )
