In 949 AD, when the owner of Villa Ponciago gave his vineyard to the Abbaye de Cluny, his ambition was to save his soul. On acquiring this domaine ideally located in Fleurie more than 1,000 years later, their ambition is to rediscover the soul of this terroir, with its prestigious past. Initially, they asked themselves two important questions: At the end of the 19th century, were the domaine’s wines not sold at the same price as those of Clos Vougeot? Tasting a superb bottle of the 1929 vintage was a veritable revelation. This reinforced the dream once and for all: why should what was possible then, not be possible today? Since the Spring of 2008, the ambition of all those who have been involved in this wonderful renaissance, is to bring to life the great wines of the Fleurie Cru’s terroir: authentic wines that are both delicious and subtle.
