Abrie Beeslaar, winemaker at Kanonkop since 2002, has released a Pinotage under his own name. Careful to make sure that we don’t doubt his allegiance to Kanonkop, he explained that it is every winemaker’s dream to have a wine bearing his own name……………. enter BEESLAAR PINOTAGE “Pinotage is not for sissies”, words Jan Boland Coetzee will use to explain the challenges of Pinotage to other winemakers. It was these challenges and the exposure to great old vines bearing unique grapes that started this love affair with Pinotage. If you are lucky enough to have the right terroir and put in the effort that Pinotage deserves, there is no wine more rewarding, says Abrie.
After pressing, malolactic fermentation was done in 15 French oak, and 300ℓ American oak barrel. The wine matured for 19 months in the barrels.
This wine has an intense ruby red colour, with plum cake, red fruit, and dark chocolate aromas, offering savory finish on the palate.
