Our founder, Bernard Podlashuk, is recognised for his daring vision, sheer audacity and progressive winemaking that helped place South African wine on the map in the latter half of the 1900’s. Bernard’s supreme respect for his vineyards favoured sustainable viticulture for authentic varietal expression.
The grapes used to make this wine come from four exceptional Chenin Blanc vineyards. These vines are all low-yielding bush vines with an average age of forty years. The vineyard blocks are in Voor Paardeberg, Darling, Durbanville, Helderberg and Bottelary Hills, all with their own exclusive terroirs, which offer characteristics which make up the amazing complexity of this wine. The bunches were subjected to partial whole bunch-pressing followed by single lot natural fermentation. Matured for nine months in French Oak barrels of mixed age.
Colour bright yellow with a hint of green. On aroma and there is fresh peach flesh and orange nectarine with a faint hint of new honey. A gorgeous mouthful of vibrant mixed stone fruits, with excellent acidity to balance. This wine is so youthful for a 2010 vintage – it is in an excellent place in its life, as it sits on its plateau of peak drinking. Drink on its own at sundown, or with young goats cheese or simple chicken dishes. ( Limited – 90 bottles available ).
