In 1988 one of the Cape’s most foremost winemakers, Beyers Truter of Kanonkop Estate, formed a partnership with four ardent wine lovers in Johannesburg with one ideal in mind: To produce a wine of exceptional character. After exploring the Cape Winelands for a suitable location, they found a perfectly situated small farm in the Koelenhof area within the Stellenbosch Wine of Origin region.
The first Beyerskloof vineyards (Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot) were planted 1988. Following the acquisition of an additional 100 hectares in the Bottelary winelands of Stellenbosch in 1997, the landholding increased again in 2018 with the purchase of a 50 hectare spread of vineyards known a Kriekbult, which is located between the winery and the Simonsberg.
Proprietor and cellarmaster, Beyers Truter is especially respected for his passion for, and expertise in the production of Pinotage and lives by his philosophy in delivering quality grapes, honestly expressed through his team’s winemaking talents. Every wine and vintage is driven by a yearning to satisfy the drinking experience and enjoyment of wine lovers at all levels.
Beyerskloof Diesel Pinotage is a tribute to Beyer’s beloved Great Dane, who features on the label. It is a remarkable wine, a local hero which draws inspiration from their close relationship, being lithe and supple with authentic varietal expression faithful to its origins, guided by the hand of the winemaker.
