Origin: Beaune, Burgundy
Over time, by acquiring various terroirs with great care and patience, Bouchard Père & Fils has built up the biggest domaine in the Côte d’Or. Today the estate boasts 130 hectares of vines, of which 12 are classed grand cru and 74 classed as premier cru. Since 1995 it has been another horse in the Maison Henriot stable, along with Villa Ponciago and William Févre. Although no longer family owned, its history runs all the way back to 1731 and thanks to the Henriot purchase in 1995 has been restored to its former glory.Since 1978, the cellar has been run by Phillipe Prost. After the injection of capital that came with the Henriot purchase, a refurbishment to modernise the cellar was made. It has now been converted to complete gravity-flow, the amount of new oak increased, and smaller fermentation tanks put in place.
“A smoky nose speaks of citrus, matchstick and white orchard fruit aromas. There is both good detail and verve to the nicely concentrated flavors that are delicious if not particularly complex on the attractively dry finish. Even so, this is a relatively dense wine for its level and may add more depth with a year or so of bottle age” – Allen Meadows, Burghound
