At Brookdale Estate, the Rudd family saw opportunity and potential in what was, at the time, an overgrown and under-used area of land in the Paarl Winelands. Tim Rudd, proprietor, acquired the property with a clear vision in mind to create a world-class country estate that encourages the freedom to be curious, to try new things, to test the limits and to pioneer new paths. Mediterranean varietals, a unique Paarl terroir and unusual winemaking techniques are brought together under the visionary hand of owner, Tim, and winemaker Kiara Scott. Before vines could be planted, sixty-seven hectares of alien vegetation and overgrown vines had to be cleared in order to restore balance to the land. Indigenous vegetation and gardens were created in abundance alongside new, thoughtfully planted vineyards.
The story of the Mason Road Serendipity Rosé is one of fate and curiosity. A single block of Grenache Noir had been planted to create a notable red wine blend. However, on the day of the harvest, Tim and Kiara were tasting the grapes and they decided to rather use the entire block for a serious and elegant rosé blend. It was a complete leap of faith and the result is a summery, medium-bodied rosé as unexpected as it is marvellous. Proof that exploration of the unknown can result in something truly remarkable.
