Region: Montalcino, Tuscany
” My name is Caterina Carli, and I was born in the same year as il Colle ( 1972 ). My job is to make wine, but my passion lies in the vineyards. I dedicate most of my work to the vine itself, as I am convinced that everything depends on a healthy birth, followed by the most natural care throughout the growth phase. I really like Sangiovese, even more so in its typical Montalcino variety. It never fails to pay back the attention it received by giving me a Brunello that can stand the test of time with harmony, balance, elegance and intensity.
The late consultant Giulio Gambelli has been the guide and inspiration behind the wines I produce. The simplicity and naturalness of his way of living and working have always accompanied me, along with the belief that making a good wine requires a few, simple rules: hard work in the vineyard, time, passion and cleanliness.
Our Brunello comes from a careful selection of our vineyards’ best bunches. The grapes coming from the northern part (Colle) are guaranteed to give the wine elegance, freshness, minerality and floral notes. These characteristics blend harmoniously with the main features of the grapes coming from the south (Castelnuovo): structure, power and colour. It takes absolute cleanliness, time (at last… everything goes so fast these days!), patience (quite a lot of it) and curiosity to watch something grow up, simply standing next to it with great care, without ever wanting it different from what it is.
A great vintage thanks to a particularly favourable season; a relatively dry winter, followed by a spring characterised by average temperatures, allowed the plants to maintain an excellent vegetative balance until summer. Some rainy days at the end of July and the beautiful temperature range experienced in August were perfect for the skins, allowing for concentrated aromas and dry extract. In September, a good amount of ventilation paved the way to the last stages of ripening, with bunches characterized by a distinctive acidity. A year that proved to be excellent even during the harvest, allowing us to bring exclusively ripe and healthy grapes into the cellar “.
Maturation took place for 48 months in 50 hl and 30 hl Slavonian oak barrels.
