Castell’in Villa, nestled within its medieval village, boasts a rich history dating back to its integration into the Municipality of Siena in 1176. Despite enduring sieges from Florence, it persevered, evidenced by landmarks like the San Cristoforo Church and the commanding tower. In 1968, Principessa Coralia Pignatelli della Leonessa and her husband purchased the estate, commencing extensive restoration and transitioning to exclusive use of Sangiovese grapes. Today, it stands as a blend of historical charm and modern functionality, with Gazzara showcasing the estate’s commitment to hospitality. Literary echoes of Tuscany’s beauty further enrich its cultural significance.

The 298-hectare estate, encompassing 54 hectares of vineyards, is situated atop a hill in Castelnuovo Berardenga at.230 to 360 metres asl. Predominantly located on the south-facing slopes of the hill, the vineyards are interspersed with olive groves and forested areas. The estate comprises eight distinct vineyard sites, chosen to showcase the diverse terroirs and microclimates of Tuscany. The soil composition consists mainly of alluvial deposits with pebbles and sand, although Poggio delle Rose, considered one of the premier sites, also features significant concentrations of clay and limestone.
