‘Includes grapes from two new Hemel en Aarde Ridge vineyards planted to replicate the premium Cuvée Cinéma site. Red and black cherry, musk, fynbos and oak spice on the nose while the palate has good weight and might even be described as plush. Altogether nicely balanced thanks to bright acidity and grippy tannins that again make for a dry finish. Alc: 14%.’ – CE

‘Bright red cherry and strawberry laced with potpourri and cardamom tea spice, the aromatics of this wine alone is enticing. Poised cool fruit and clever oaking make this Pinot super charming with notes of nutmeg, burnt orange and hints of toffee apple coming through.. Crystallum is a family-run and privately-owned winery based in the Walker Bay region of South Africa. Brothers Andrew and Peter-Allan are the third generation of Finlayson winemakers and sons of the man who pioneered Pinot Noir winemaking in the Hemel-en-Aarde region. Andrew is an architect by training and Peter-Allan a student of philosophy and economics, but it didn’t take long for the lure of wine to take effect, with Andrew drawn to the vineyards and Peter-Allan to the cellar.

The company was founded in 2007 when it produced just over four thousand bottles of Sauvignon Blanc. The following vintage saw the introduction of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and Crystallum now produces these Burgundian varieties exclusively, making up its collection with multi-vineyard blends and single-vineyard wines. All fruit is hand picked and naturally fermented with 50% of the fruit de-stemmed and the remainder left as whole clusters. Maturation takes place in French oak for eleven to sixteen months before bottling.
