A moustachioed feline on the labels tells you this brand doesn’t take itself too seriously, but the bottle contents speak to the earnestness which Gerhard Smith brings to his boutique fine-wine venture, ‘The Cat’s Whiskers’. Gerhard’s connection with Hemel-en-Aarde, currently as assistant winemaker at Creation, means the area and its specialities, pinot noir, chardonnay and sauvignon, are first on his radar, but he is also constantly scanning other places for vinous catmint.
