The Droin family have 400 years of wine growing history in Chablis. At the helm today is fourteenth generation vigneron Benoît Droin who joined the Domaine in 1999, before taking the reins from his father Jean-Paul in 2014. Much of the sterling reputation of the Domaine can be credited to Jean-Paul, but in recent years the domaine has elevated itself to one of the reference points of Chablis, &, arguably, the most exciting. Benoît has made small adjustments, such as the use of native yeasts since 2013, better farming, revising pruning technique for greatly reduced yields, and the sympathetic use of oak.
The Domaine has built up a terrific selection of both Premier Cru & Grand Cru plots, which are highly sought-after. “For me, 2021 is near classic vintage. We started picking on 19 September when cold nights helped with the freshness. It’s a long time since I’ve seen these levels of malic, 4-5g/L. That’s more Chablis style.” Benoît Droin.

Region: Chablis
Tasting note:
“Our Chablis Village wine is a perfect introduction to the minerality of Chablis wines. During the first three years, the wine shows itself as generous and lively, with notes of lemon, oyster shell and flint. After 10 years or more, the aromas become far more powerful, with notes of gun-flint and undergrowth. In the great vintages, it can be kept for more than 20 years.
As an aperitif, it will go very well with “gougère” cheese-puff pastries or cold meats. As a starter, it will be perfect with a fish terrine or seafood.” – Winemaker
“The 2022 Chablis Village has a crisp, focused bouquet with hints of pressed white flowers and wet stone. The elegant palate has flecks of white peach and apricot, balanced and lovely with a charming, precise finish. This is very capable and should age well in bottle.” – Vinous
