Situated in the Cape Winelands are the barrel-vaulted cellar buildings of Eikendal Vineyards, which form a distinctive landmark on the R44 route between the historic university town of Stellenbosch and Somerset West.
“Our vines flourish in such a unique and striking setting, framed by the Helderberg Mountains in the background, False Bay fanning from the side, and Table Mountain in the distance. Our wines are a true reflection of our favourable terroir, intensely expressed with a firm structure just like the Helderberg Mountain, whilst tempered with elegance and finesse, as only the cooling ocean breezes can provide” shares winemaker Nico Grobler.
Cultivars: 52% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc
The true essence of Eikendal…no stone was left unturned in creating this quality. Tightness, freshness, length, pure elegant fruit, with finesse as the core. Perfect oak integration and not your typical wood chewing icon wine. A wine with soft nuances, whispering it’s secret in your ear. This wine typifies what Eikendal is all about – it is a classy, understated red wine with staying power. Oaked for 18 months with 30% new oak.
Eikendal Classique is delicious right now, although newly bottled, shows an excellent shows potential for maturation during the next 10-15 years.
