Gewurztraminer originates in the “Tramin” village in Italian Alto-Adige. It is the particularly aromatic selection of Traminer. The passage of Traminer in Gewurztraminer is an Alsatian success, where it reaches an optimal quality, incomparable with anything else.
The flavour: It develops a really aromatic palate: flavours of flowers, exotic fruits and spices make a powerful and complex wine. The freshness of Gewurztraminer remains very discreet. It is firmly structured with a spicy finale. As the grape allows to be harvested when very ripe, Gewurztraminer is perfect for the Late Harvest and “Sélection de Grains Nobles”.
Food and wine pairing: Gewurztraminer accompanies exotic food, strong cheeses like the local munster or the roquefort, and naturally “foie gras”. It also works wonderfully with fruit desserts.
The vine: Gewurztraminer can often be found on well-exposed soils, marl-limestone, granite and sandy clay.
