Groot Phesantekraal was first granted in 1698 to Olof Bergh, then passed from the Bergh family to the Louws who lived there for several generations before it was eventually acquired by Arend Brink in 1897. While the Brink family originated in the Cape, Arend was a transport rider between the diamond and gold fields up north before settling on this farm on the outskirts of Durbanville. It is now in the hands of Andre Brink, the 4th generation at this farm on the north-east side of Durbanville where the sea breeze from the icy Atlantic meets the dry heat of the interior.
GROOT PHESANTEKRAAL Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
R161.00
Region: Durbanville
Tasting note:
Concentrated dark fruit aromas of blackcurrant and blue berries which follow through to the palate. pinecone and black pepper scents are in harmony with fruit, creating a full-bodied complex wine. Beautiful tightness on the palate with dried herb nuances emphasizes the cool climate terroir. The wine has long, full finish that lingers with a blueberry aftertaste.
Pairing suggestion:
Enjoy with roast pork or beef, chicken liver terrine and winter stews.
