“An opulent, barrel-fermented Viognier with a typical light straw colour. Initial top notes of yellow citrus fruits develop into a complex melange of tinned peach, shortbread and chamomile on the nose. This medium to full-bodied wine has an elegant, buttery mid palate followed by a lingering sensation of nougat and orange blossoms. Serve chilled and enjoy the evolution of flavours in the glass. Try with veal, pork and roast chicken.” – Winemaker

The 150 hectare Bottega family estate sits on the mountainside high above Sir Lowry’s Pass Village and can be seen from far due to the distinctive mountain shape which is known as the Idiom Conical Peak. Their wines are made in Hermanus at Bottega-owned winery Whalehavel.
The vineyards that bear the fruit of Idiom are called ‘Da Capo’ which means ‘from the beginning’ or ‘from the Cape’ in Italian, a reference to the fact that the vineyards were carefully laid out and planted on the farm for the first time in 1999. Nestling at the foot of these majestic granite mountains, the slopes vary in height from 200m to 350m above sea level. Proximity to the sea with views of the False Bay peninsula offer the cooler climatic influence of the ocean. Soils contain decomposed granite which is relatively shallow and stony in patches with a clay base. The distinctive northern, western and southern aspects create several micro-terroirs, which add character and complexity to the wines.
