Namibian born winemaker and viticulturist, Lucinda Heyns, started making wines under the Illimis label in 2015. Giving her brand a Latin name meaning ‘clarity’ Lucinda seeks to convey her process of stepping aside as much as possible and letting the wine be a window to the vineyard, and the vineyard a reflection of the wine. Since inception she has worked with the same single parcels, chosen to allow for gentleness throughout the winemaking. She eschews additives, save for a touch of sulphur and uses very old oak (ten years) to not sully the pristine fruit flavours. She is based at Karibib Wine Craft on Sellenbosch’s Polkadraai Hills, where she has founded a conducive vineyard for a brilliant, on-trend new wine.

Tasting note:
“Lighter style of Pinotage, with opulent mashed berries, juicy plum, and violets on the nose with whispers of earthy and spicy undertones that transition onto the palette. Encounter an alluring, bright palette that unfolds with inviting charm before culminating in a lingering finish with elegant, silky tannins.” – Winemaker
