Since the first vintage was bottled in 1984, Kaapzicht (Cape view – named for the view of Table Mountain) Wine Estate has become highly respected for their quality range of wines and good value for money. This award winning estate lies in the Bottelary Hills in the Stellenbosch district. The Steytler Family has farmed this land since 1946 and run their 190 hectare estate hands-on. The first Pinotage vineyard was planted on the farm in 1959. The red gravel soil in their hallmark Pinotage blocks gives these vineyards their name — Rooiland (red land).
Grapes were hand-picked from unirrigated bush vines planted in Koffieklip and weathered granite soils. They were then crushed and destemmed into stainless steel tanks for fermentation. After fermentation the wine was gently pressed and transferred to tanks for malolactic conversion. After completion the wine was racked to specially selected 300L barrels for ageing between sixteen and eighteen months. After blending the wine was aged in concrete tanks until bottling.
