Kaapzicht (Cape view – named for the view of Table Mountain) Wine Estate was founded in 1946 by a man who swapped the stark Karoo landscape for the promise of a new life on the hospitable Bottelary Hills, Stellenbosch. The soils are ancient granite and the farm is mostly north-west facing, allowing for intense sunlight, but with the cooling breezes from Table Bay and False Bay.
Today, Kaapzicht is a 4th-generation Steytler-family run farm. The current custodians, cellar master Danie Jnr and wife and marketer Carin, are reshuffling some of the ranges, adding new wines and tweaking the packaging to better reflect the personality of the wines. The portfolio focuses predominantly on the production of Chenin Blanc, Pinotage and Cabernet Sauvignon, showcasing a different style of each of these varietals across their three ranges.
Four generations of Steytlers have been custodians of this special site for almost eight decades. Today, it is one of the oldest Chenin Blanc vineyards in the country. It’s deeply connected to our history and our home, making it impossible to mimic. The wine exemplifies the tension between generosity and restraint found in Bottelary Chenin Blanc.
