“From dryland vines planted between 1995 and 2002. Matured for 20 months in barrel. 56% Pinotage, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot. The nose shows red cherry, cassis, vanilla and spice. Clean fruit, fresh acidity and firm tannins. This is clearly an ambitious wine but as so often with Cape Blends, it appears slightly disjointed. Alc: 14.5%.” – CE

Kaapzicht (Cape view – named for the view of Table Mountain) Wine Estate was founded in 1946 by a man who swapped the stark Karoo landscape for the promise of a new life on the hospitable Bottelary Hills, Stellenbosch. The soils are ancient granite and the farm is mostly north-west facing, allowing for intense sunlight, but with the cooling breezes from Table Bay and False Bay.
Today, Kaapzicht is a 4th-generation Steytler-family run farm. The current custodians, cellar master Danie Jnr and wife and marketer Carin, are reshuffling some of the ranges, adding new wines and tweaking the packaging to better reflect the personality of the wines. The portfolio focuses predominantly on the production of Chenin Blanc, Pinotage and Cabernet Sauvignon, showcasing a different style of each of these varietals across their three ranges.

A harmonious composition of Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot give texture, intensity and depth. It captures Danie Steytler Snr’s vision of producing the ultimate Cape Blend, truly expressive of Bottelary. Over time nuances and layers of flavour will unfold, rewarding those patient enough to cellar. Only released in superior vintages.
