Kara-Tara is a joint-venture between Rüdger van Wyk (2018 Diners Club Young Winemaker of the Year) and José Conde of Stark-Condé Wines.
Translated from the Khoisan, the language from the first people in Southern Africa, it means “deep dark shadows” and refers to the Karatara river that runs through Rüdger’s home town, near Knysna which is located in South Africa, on the Cape South Coast, facing the Indian Ocean.
“I’m proud to debut the Kara-Tara Pinot Noir Reserve 2020, a limited release (just 700 bottles) from a unique vineyard in the Overberg region. This particular vineyard always stood out for me for its excellent fruit. Planted in rocky shale and surrounded by mountains, this isolated vineyard has the cool climate needed to make elegant and cellar-worthy Pinot. The wine has a seductive perfume, elegant tannins, and beautiful long legs.” – Winemaker
