Keet wines, established in 2009, reflect viticulturist and oenologist Christopher Keet’s philosophy that the art of viticulture and winemaking lies in the focus, attention to detail, and precision nurturing of vine and wine.
His dedication has led to the creation of his award-winning wine, First Verse. Created from grapes sourced within the Stellenbosch region of the Western Cape, South Africa, Keet First Verse can be likened to a fine symphony of orchestral instruments, each performing in perfect harmony.
The 2017 First Verse is a blend of 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Cabernet Franc, 14% Merlot, 10% Malbec and 7% Petit Verdot. ‘The vintage of 2017 saw the stars aligning to near perfection. The last time I experienced this was in 1997. Weather conditions building up to the harvest were characterized by moderate temperatures, cool summer breezes from the south west, average rainfall, low fungal disease pressure and prolonged ripening processes. This culminated in grapes with perfect synchronization of sugar development, acid status, varietal flavours and mature, silky tannins’ writes Christopher.
