Tasting note:

Pale straw in colour. Appealing aromas of yellow peach, fresh bread dough and baked apple with cinnamon. There is ripeness and intensity to the 2019 GPS Chardonnay with a creaminess of texture and almost mid-palate sweetness that displays pineapple tart, peach melba, orange peel oil and apricot clafoutis. This mid-palate fleshiness and depth of flavour are kept beautifully in check by the cleansing tension of acidity. An elongated finish unfolds further nuances: unburnt joss sticks, pine needles, slivered almonds and oat pithiness. – Wine Maker

In 2012, UK-born winemaker, trained chef and Master of Wine Richard Kershaw chose Elgin Valley in which to establish a boutique winery – Richard Kershaw Wines. Focus is on varieties which perform well in this cool climate: chardonnay, pinot noir and syrah. From the first Clonal Selections, the portfolio has grown to more than twenty wines across four ranges, the more recent GPS showing unusual sites beyond Elgin, Deconstructed focusing on site, soil and clone, and Smuggler’s Boot offering an easier-drinking style. If not in the vineyard or cellar, Richard can be found judging on wine shows, lecturing Wine & Spirit Trust students, mentoring MW students and, in 2022, being inducted in to the esteemed Cape Winemakers Guild.

100% Chardonnay made from Dijon clone CY95. Sourced from a single block; a small parcel of Chardonnay grapes growing on limestone soils in the Lower Duivenhoks River area.
