The La Brune dream (French for brunette) was born when winemaker Nico Grobler fell in love with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir through a close friend and Vigneron Bruno Lorenzon of Domaine Lorenzon in Mercurey (Côte Chalonnaise Burgundy). Nico is a viticulturist first with more than fifteen years experience in growing vineyards around South Africa. La Brune has access to some of the highest elevation Chardonnay vineyards in South Africa and has the honour of producing its Pinot Noir from one of the highest density vineyards at 10 000 vines per hectare. (South African average is 3 300 vines per hectare) using five selected clones.

Tasting note:
“Grapes from Lothian, 60% CY548 and 40% CY95. Fermentation begun in stainless steel tank and finished in barrel. Matured for 12 months in 228-litre barrels, 30% new. Potpourri, pear, peach, lemon, orange, a hint of earthiness and some yeasty complexity. The palate is poised and refined with a pleasing nervous tension about it – pure fruit and bright acidity before a pithy finish. Alc: 13%.” – CE 95pts
