“Alluring aromas of cinnamon, cherries, wild strawberry, raspberry and cedar wood dominate the nose. The wine has a delicious, juicy fruit profile with complex flavours of ripe plums, black cherries, nutmeg and cloves. The ripe tannins are well integrated and complement the elegant nature of the wine. Flavours of cranberries on the aftertaste, with a long, dry finish.” – Winemaker

The rich history of three exceptional wineries paved the way for the birth of Wellington Wines, and dates back to 1906, 1907 and 1941 when Wellington Co-operative Winery Ltd., Bovlei Co-operative Ltd. and Wamakersvallei Winery were founded respectively. According to the South African Wine of Origin Scheme, Wellington Wines is situated in the Wellington District, along the inland border of the Coastal Region, bordered by the Paarl District to the south-west and the Swartland District to the north-west.
The majority of the vineyards in the region are situated on the foothills of the Hawekwa and Groenberg Mountains where they flourish along the banks of the Kromme River. The weather is typically Mediterranean with cold, wet winters and warm, dry summers. The soil types consist of mostly weathered granite, alluvial and shale.
La Cave Pinotage 2019 comes from two single-site vineyards and was matured in new French Oak Barrels.
