La Chapelle des Landes, Landes de Pomerol 2022

THE VINEYARD

The vineyard is just 2.5 Ha in size and is 55+ years old. The Château le Chapelle des Landes soils and sub-soils are located on the Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation zone. They are gravelly and mainly consisting of hardened decalcified deposits; turning red with quartz, silex and rich in ferric oxides granites, locally called “crasse de fer”. The vineyard is located in the former bed of river Isle. Three million years ago water was covering the location of the current Lalande-dePomerol appellation so the vines enjoy an oceanic and mild micro-climate. This typicity gives structure, fullness and finesse to the wine, making it worthy of the greatest wines produced under the appellation.

THE WINEMAKER

At the beginning, Paul Lassagne worked by night at a local roof tile factory, and by day on his little property with vines, land and pasture which he purchased in 1952 – although the existence of the property dates back to the crusades in the middle ages. He gave his love of the land to the next generations. Current owner Nicolas Lassagne, the third generation of the family to tend the soils, took over the properties in 2001 having graduated from wine school. In 2020, the family started a transition toward a more organic production process. They want to ensure these work methods are valid and most of all we want to respect our various terroirs, thus passing down the family torch to future generations.
