After nearly a decade as cellarmaster of an elite Paarl based estate and creating award-winning wines, acclaimed South African winemaker Arco Laarman ventured out and created Laarman Wines to further his passion for the art of winemaking. A lover of classic Burgundy and SA heritage grapes, he has focused on cinsault and chardonnay, from the Cape South Coast – a cool region with limestone rich soils and a good annual rainfall.
The ethos behind his premium Focal Point collection is to express the unique character of specific vineyard sites, showcasing the depth and variety of the Western Cape’s terroir. This chardonnay originates from a lesser-known area called Vermaaklikheid on the Duivenshok River estuary, located 300km from Cape Town, where Arco plans to plant his own vines in the future.
Fermentation took three weeks, after which the wine aged in oak for eleven months. (39% new, 32% second fill and 29% neutral oak).

Tasting note:
Pale gold in colour with hints of green – voluptuous body with aromas of buttered toast and crème bruleé. Firm structure with a range of citrus perfumes, especially
mandarin, with a touch of ginger and a nutty character. The finish is seamless and lingers long after the last drop.
Food Pairing:
This full-bodied chardonnay pairs well with effortlessly prepared foods such as baked fish or poultry with butter and herbs. A good example will be crisp-skinned roast chicken as well as risotto and mushroom. It compliments foods with ingredients that provide an impression of sweetness, such as corn, butternut squash, sweet potatoesas well as roasted and grilled caramelised dishes.
