Founded and managed by the Le Riche family, this estate is based in the foothills of the Helderberg mountains. Only the highest-quality fruit is exclusively selected from unique vineyards, grown by long-term, established farmers.
The Le Riche Cabernet Sauvignon is the true backbone of their range. Grapes are selected from various vineyard sites in the Simonsberg, Jonkershoek and Helderberg wards. The conscientiously considered blend of cool gravelly slopes facing False Bay and rich red granitic soils around Stellenbosch ensures a beautiful balance of aromas and flavours.
Le Riche Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
‘Same wards as Reserve plus Jonkershoek, masterly 2021 finer, leaner than 2020 (4.5 stars, 94 pts), subtle hint of blackcurrant decadence, iodine & rockpool complexity. House’s hallmark coiled intensity, shaped by 22 months in oak, 18% new, augurs well for cellaring.’ – Platter’s Guide, 5* (95/100)
‘This is “just” the basic Cabernet Sauvignon from Christo Le Riche, but it’s a brilliant wine in its own right. Using grapes from ten different vineyards across Stellenbosch in Firgrove, the Helderberg, Jonkershoek, Raithby and the Simonsberg, it’s a masterclass in blending. Matured in 18% new wood, it’s wonderfully pure and scented, all violet, tar, tobacco leaf and liquorice, with plush yet structured cassis, black cherry and Asian spice flavours and thebackbone to age for another decade in bottle. 2025-35’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2023, 95/100
‘Deep garnet in colour. Inviting aromas of plum, cherry and blackcurrant with hints of violet and cedar. On the palate the wine is fruit forward showing delicious fresh black fruits and a juicy entry. Firm tannins assist in creating a voluptuous, creamy mouthfeel which is balanced by a long, appetising finish. A classic Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon.’ – Winemaker
