An invigorating freshness characterises the Lomond wines, which have their home on the wind-blown southern tip of Africa – Cape Agulhas – the meeting place of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans. The Lomond estate revels in this extreme maritime climate. On the slopes of the Ben Lomond mountain in the Uilenkraal Valley, the vineyards are planted on as many as eighteen different soil types, which appear naturally in small pockets along the slopes and produce intriguingly complex wines with flavour profiles that differ markedly from one block to the next.
This registered Single Vineyard site was deliberately chosen, owing to its specific terroir consisting primarily of sandy loam soils, for the crafting of the Pincushion Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc. This is one of the highest vineyards on the farm situated on the south-east facing slopes, which ensures that the vineyard is cooled by the prevailing summer winds off of the sea. This single vineyard wine is named after a vulnerable listed species endemic to the Agulhas Region, the Silver-edged Pincushion.
