Established by Governor Willem Adriaan van der Stel in 1709, Lourensford has a proud history as a world-class fruit farm. Fortunately, the winemaking tradition was revived when well-known Cape business man, Dr Christo Wiese purchased the Estate in 1998. Situated at Somerset West, the estate covers a remarkable 4,000 hectares, ranging almost all the way up Hederberg Mountain. It embraces a large fynbos conservatory, forests, orchards and 100 hectares of cool-grown vineyard, caressed by breezes off the Atlantic Ocean.
This wine was made from a certified single vineyard block from twenty-four year old vines, growing in Sweetwater soil. The vineyard sits at 140m above sea level and 8km from the cool sea breezes of False Bay.
78% fermented in French Oak barrels of which 33% was new.
