This family owned, small-batch winemaking venture was started by Alexandra McFarlane. She previously worked at Druk My Niet in Paarl and has now released her maiden wine, Monday’s Child Chenin Blanc 2019, under the McFarlane Wines label. In Alexandra’s words, ‘we love making wines that are delicious to drink and unpretentious. Every vineyard, vintage and bottle has a story that we look forward to sharing with you on our journey into honestly made, proudly South African wine.’.
McFarlane Monday’s Child Chenin Blanc 2022
This wine shows poached quince and fresh apricots on the nose with some delicate florals and spice. The palate has fleshy yellow fruit and a savoury spice following through from the nose. There is great freshness of fruit and acidity that carries the wine and ensures great aging potential. The tangy fruit and delicate spice on the palate keeps the wine bright and moreish. Enjoy this with caramelised lemon and date roast chicken and golden roast potatoes.
‘From Chenin Blanc – 60% Polkadraai Hills and 40% Koelenhof. A expressive nose of citrus, peach, herbs, some leesy complexity, ginger and other spice. Surprisingly rich and broad given an alcohol of just 12.5%. Lots of flavour and well-integrated acidity.’ – CE 92/100
