Melaurea is made from tested, unadulterated African wildflower organic honey, water and champagne yeast. Melaurea is additive, preservative and sulphur free. Our honey is selected for its distinctive fynbos aromatic properties.
The production of mead can be traced back to 6,500 – 7,000 BC in Europe and Asia; making it humanity’s earliest recorded alcoholic beverage. Mead is intimately intertwined with our culture and its’ echoes can still be heard in traditions such as the honeymoon. South Africa’s earliest San people pioneered mead production using honey-water mixtures they found in tree hollows.
TASTING NOTES: Distinct rich honey and fynbos flavours with a light smokiness and caressing warmth on the palate. The bottle fermentation gives beautiful depth on the nose and palate; with fine lingering bubbles adding to the finesse and subtle aromas. Delectable umami undertones.
