Family-owned and family-run, Morgenster Estate has a long history dating back 300 years. Situated near the foothills of the Helderberg Mountain in Somerset West, we produce award-winning Bordeaux-style wines, Italian cultivars and extra virgin olive oil. The owners aim to inspire people to dream big, through sharing the founder’s story, the legend of the late Giulio Bertrand and his persistence, tenacity and unflinching commitment to quality. Giulio passed away in 2018, and his two daughters, Federica and Alessandra, are carrying his dream forward.
Grapes from carefully selected clonal material came from vineyard sites with a diversity of soils, from deep decomposed granite to stonier decomposed Table Mountain Sandstone. Vines, varying in age from nine to 21 years, yielded pristine fruit. 2013 was another great vintage, and in line with the Estate’s philosophy behind its flagship Bordeaux blend, Morgenster Estate Reserve 2013 reflects its exceptional terroir in the best possible blend from a great harvest. As usual blending was done in consultation with Pierre Lurton of Château Chevel Blanc and cellar master Henry Kotzé is more than happy with the result: “This is Morgenster Reserve, so expect nothing less than amazing. These wines are crafted from the Schaapenberg mountainsides to create memories from now until 20 years in the future”, he says.
