When founders Larry Jacobs and Mike Dobrovic started Mulderbosch in 1989, they weren’t afraid to aim high and right from the maiden vintage of 1992, they began to earn many accolades and international acclaim. It’s been that way pretty much ever since. Those to come after Larry and Mike have done their best to maintain their track record and build on the reputation they established, taking inspiration from their visionary optimism.
Searching for distinctive, exceptional vineyards in order to create Mulderbosch Chenin Blanc, a relationship was developed with a vineyard called Rustenhof which possesses unique qualities worthy of capturing as a singular expression of this site. The newly renamed Mulderbosch Old Vine Steen Op Hout is the result of the joyous celebration of this unique vineyard and the people responsible for the cultivation.
Mulderbosch Old Vine “Steen Op Hout” Chenin Blanc 2022
R373.00
Region: Stellenbosch
Tasting note:
“Green tinge edges wrapped in a bright golden hue. This 1978 vineyard is still producing some of the most thought-provoking eloquently nuanced aromatic profiles in the Chenin world! Salinity and earth-moving, rock-breaking minerality are key to understanding this precise piece of soil. Added to the downplayed flinty minerality, the extra time on vine in 2021, gives this wine an added layer of complexity and texture. Opulent creamy notes with sweetness from riper fruit aromatics add extra strands to this already rich tapestry.” – Winemaker
