Tasting note:

This is the most structured Syrah in our Single Terroir range. On the nose there are notes of black pepper, black fruit and spices. The palate is full-bodied with a meaty, savoury character, plenty silky tannins giving structure and a balancing natural acidity. The finish is fresh, long and supple.

“While a higher skin to juice ratio offers a denser, broodier tannic complexity, this wine is always very suave and plush, generous and alluring with complex layers of delicious black berry fruits. The aromatics show hints of lavender and violets, blueberry and black cherries, sweet grilled herbs and fynbos spice and a subtle black olive tapenade nuance. On the palate there is plenty of fleshy weight and texture with a balancing acid freshness and natural fruit concentration boasting vermouth spices, salty nori seaweed, blood oranges and an opulent, rich, meaty finish.” – Greg Sherwood MW

Mullineux is a highly focused family winery based near the village of Riebeek Kasteel in the Swartland region. The Swartland is a beautiful and wild place. The landscape is a series of rolling hills with a few significant outcrops of rock that form the Paardeberg, Kasteelberg and Piketberg mountains.
After working several vintages at wineries in France, South Africa and California, Chris and Andrea Mullineux chose to settle in the Swartland, firmly believing that the granite and schist based terroirs and old vineyards of the region have the potential to produce great wine. And so, in 2007, Mullineux was established.  Within a very short time the winery has become one of South Africa’s most celebrated wine brands, both locally and internationally.
Roundstone is the beautiful Swartland base of their Mullineux and Kloof Street labels, where a large portion of their fruit comes from. The property is situated on the south western slopes of Kasteelberg Mountain. The soils on Roundstone are all based on a bedrock of very deep Schist, with the top soils varying from heavy, hard blue schist, through lovely weathered brown schist with veins of quartz and also some very deep colluvial soils that have settled from erosion of the Table Mountain Sandstone on the top of Kasteelberg. The heavy rocky soils tend to produce deeply structured red wines and white wines with lovely texture.
In the cellar, apart from minimal amounts of sulphur, nothing is added to, or removed from their wines. They do not make use of any yeasts, acids, tannins, enzymes or fining and filtering agents.
