Neethlingshof lies in the very heart of the Cape’s Winelands. Flanked by the Bottelary Hills and Papegaaiberg Mountain near Stellenbosch and overlooking False Bay, this beautiful, historic farm offers not only breathtaking scenery, but also a taste of traditional Cape culture blended with influences from both Africa and Europe. The history of Neethlingshof Estate spans more than 300 years and given that the original (1692) name translates as ‘Dance of Wolves’, it is fitting that jackal and caracal feature in some wines’ names. The fauna theme is also appropriate in light of the long focus on nature preservation, evidenced in the many WWF-SA Conservation Champion certificates. Central to the sustainability emphasis has been the Schreiber family, who acquired the property in 1985 and extensively renovated the buildings and vineyards. After joint custodianship with Distell in the early 2000s, they became sole owners in 2017. In 2022 Neethlingshof was sold to Iwayini, the South African subsidiary of GCF (Grands Chais de France), a company owned and run by the Helfrich family.
Neethlingshof covers 278ha of which approximately 70% is suitable for top quality viticulture. The estate occupies an incredibly privileged site with ideal natural conditions, soils, slopes, altitudes and climate to produce a variety of great wines. All the grapes for the Neethlingshof wines are grown on the estate and all the wine is made, matured and bottled in the cellars of the estate.
