Pioneering in spirit, no family has been more influential than the Cluvers in establishing Elgin as one of SA’s finest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir regions. The family pursues sustainable agriculture and farming practices, for which they have been awarded international recognition. They are also a socially responsible business and have founded two schools and an empowerment project. Located in the unique Elgin region, and nestled in an inland mountain plateau, the estate forms part of the UNESCO Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve which was established in 1998.
Paul Clüver Noble Late Harvest Riesling 2021
R649.00
Region: Elgin
Tasting note:
‘One of a very small number of world class South African sweet wines, this is a wonderfully, fresh, clean, intense, botrytis-affected Riesling. Racy, bright and well-balanced, with limeand passion fruit flavours, good extract and smoothly integrated 177 grams of residual sugar. 2023-29’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2023, 96/100
‘Gorgeously rich & sweet 2021 dessert wine, the botrytis clearly expressed in the honeyed apricot aromas. Germanic in style, but modestly so – 11 g/L acid sufficiently balances 177 g/L sugar & makes for uncloying, almost-dry finish, though not with knife-edge effect. No oaking; 9.9% alc. Back to the starry heights after a blip in 2020 (4.5 stars, 90 pts). 375 ml.’ – Platter’s Guide, 5* (96/100)
