Just 12 tons of grapes are used for the family’s own label, with 850 cases reaching the market. JP’s brother Pierre is part-owner, winemaker and viticulturist, who celebrate their grandfather Charles and great-grandfather Bill in the Bordeaux-accented craft range. An American doctor who arrived in the Cape at the turn of the 20th century, Bill went on to create Stellenbosch farmers’ Winery, founder member of today’s giant Distell. With a lot of hard work in the vineyard and a soft hand in the cellar, the siblings are making great strides, with wines worth singing about. This brilliant blend comprises 45% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 10% Malbec. Brilliant ruby red colour, Gorgeous red fruit spectrum showing on nose, echoing the Cab Franc presence, 24 months in oak, 76% new, bringing an inner warmth and a subtle Lindt raspberrry choc tone. Perfectly ripe varietal components make up a beautiful whole, integrating well already. The tannins are ripe and the acidity is on point, convincing us that this very Bordeaux-like wine will mature well until it reaches its’ plateau in 2030
