GROOT PHESANTEKRAAL Sauvignon Blanc 2022 R113 per bottle
Groot Phesantekraal was first granted in 1698 to Olof Bergh, then passed from the Bergh family to the Louws who lived there for several generations before it was eventually acquired by Arend Brink in 1897. While the Brink family originated in the Cape, Arend was a transport rider between the diamond and gold fields up north before settling on this farm on the outskirts of Durbanville. It is now in the hands of Andre Brink, the 4th generation at this farm on the north–east side of Durbanville where the sea breeze from the icy Atlantic meets the dry heat of the interior. The complex and intriguing nose displays a melange of cool tropical fruit, with passion fruit and guava. The palate is still youthful, with mouth–watering grapefruit and lemongrass notes along with cut grass and gooseberries. Fresh, crunchy salads, grilled chicken or seared fish would make perfect partners.

DU TOITSKLOOF Dimension Blend 2018 R178 per bottle
In the early years Du Toitskloof Wines became well known as a bulk-wine producer, yet after the winery began concentrating on the bottled wine market in the early 1990s, they soon cultivated a reputation as a progressive brand, especially in the innovative winemaking disciplines introduced at the cellar. This is one of the gems here, a blend of > Syrah, with Mourvedre and four Bordeaux varietals. The deep garnet colour precedes a full, open aroma of black fruits and hints of mulled strawberries. The flavour is generous and deeply fruity, smooth and integrated. A plush, easy wine to savour on its own, or with cheese & biscuits or red meat dishes.
The property is located on a gradually sloped hillside that ultimately becomes towering mountain cliffs. The highest peak is the eponymous Silkbush Mountain. The dramatic landscape rivals anywhere in the world with its sheer beauty and unique terroir especially well suited for growing premium wine grapes. After spending 18-20 months in older barrels, the components of Shiraz, Malbec & Petit Verdot were blended together to produce this elegant wine. The vineyards are planted in ancient, decomposed granite soils. Dark fruit, plums, raspberries and spice on the nose with red cherry and brambles contributing to a juicy mouthfeel and lingering taste. The ideal wine to enjoy next to the braai, with a pizza or at a picnic.
